A limited-edition daruma doll honoring Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Shohei Ohtani has been unveiled, celebrating his remarkable career and resilience. Japanese company Ensky announced on April 13 that pre-orders for the “Shohei Ohtani × Takasaki Daruma” collaboration will open on May 15.
The daruma comes in three colors—white, blue, and gray—inspired by the Dodgers’ uniforms. On the back, alongside Ohtani’s jersey number, a gold MLB logo is featured, a special mark awarded only to players who have achieved MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year honors in a single season. A custom base made from artificial turf will also be available for purchase.
“The spirit of Shohei Ohtani, who continues to rewrite history with his unprecedented two-way play on the global stage, is built on untold effort. His journey through multiple surgeries, rehab, and overcoming adversity truly embodies an unyielding will. The path Ohtani forges and the ancient wisdom of ‘fall down seven, get up eight’ carried by the traditional Takasaki daruma—two souls from different eras now resonate in this special collaboration,” the company stated.
Takasaki City in Gunma Prefecture is Japan’s leading producer of daruma dolls, with each piece still handcrafted by skilled artisans. The tradition is upheld by Daimonya, a long-established workshop in Takasaki, which sends approximately 70,000 daruma dolls each year to owners across Japan and around the world.
The product lineup includes a set of white and blue daruma dolls with a field base for ¥27,500, limited to 900 sets. Individual white and gray daruma dolls are available for ¥11,000 each, and the special base is priced at ¥2,420, all offered in limited quantities.
