Japan Bobsled and Skeleton Federation President Takahiro Kitano, 62, issued a public apology on the federation’s official website, acknowledging that he made inappropriate remarks during an investigation into the federation’s failure to secure a men’s bobsled spot for the February Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. Kitano released a statement expressing regret and indicated his intention to continue in his role, though he did not disclose the exact content of his comments.
In January, it was revealed that the federation had overlooked a change in qualification rules, costing the men’s team a chance to compete. During subsequent interviews with those involved, Kitano acknowledged he had not remained calm. “There were exchanges where I lost my composure. I deeply reflect on my own lack of awareness,” he stated. Kitano also serves as vice president of the Japan Olympic Committee (JOC).
