Cristiano Ronaldo has sent an encouraging message to Al Nassr fans after the Saudi Pro League title was put on hold following a dramatic late equalizer.
The Portuguese superstar’s side was just minutes away from clinching their first Saudi league championship since 2019. Al Nassr led rivals Al Hilal 1-0 until the eighth minute of second-half stoppage time at Al Awwal Park on Tuesday night.
However, with seconds remaining before the final whistle, a costly miscommunication between Brazilian goalkeeper Bento and Spanish defender Iñigo Martínez allowed Al Hilal to snatch a last-gasp equalizer, postponing Al Nassr’s title celebrations.
Despite the heartbreak etched across his face after the equalizer, Ronaldo took to social media to rally his teammates and fans, writing on X: “The dream is close… hold your heads high, we still have one last step!”
He added: “Thank you all for the amazing support tonight!”
Al Nassr can still secure the title by beating Damk in the final matchday on May 21. They could also be crowned champions if Al Hilal drop points against NEOM in their Round 33 clash this Saturday.
The yellow-clad side also have the chance to end the season with a double, as they face Japan’s Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League 2 final on the same weekend.
